the Bible - humans don't have perfect knowledge - they like to pretend they do, or at least that they know more than they do - the Bible describes what happens when people do this - the Bible describes how to avoid falling into this trap - people don't understand emotion very well - people often do stupid things due to their emotions - the Bible describes what happens when people do this - the Bible describes how to deal with emotion properly selflessness - requires truly valuing others more than you - faith that the above is the best avenue for life self-control - do not let emotions control your actions [adversely] pursue excellence via truth (that which matches reality from an unbiased point of view) - put yourself near people who value this where does your confidence come from? in what do you hope? what are your requirements for being happy? - what do you value most? does your enjoyment come from immediate fulfillment, immediate gratification, perhaps at the cost of others'? (near-term vs. long-term) how teachable are you? by whom? what frustrates you and why? what are you doing about it? what do you think about on a day-to-day basis?
