Thoughts on Life

the Bible
  • humans don't have perfect knowledge
    • they like to pretend they do, or at least that they know more than they do
    • the Bible describes what happens when people do this
    • the Bible describes how to avoid falling into this trap
  • people don't understand emotion very well
    • people often do stupid things due to their emotions
    • the Bible describes what happens when people do this
    • the Bible describes how to deal with emotion properly

selflessness
  • requires truly valuing others more than you
  • faith that the above is the best avenue for life

self-control
  • do not let emotions control your actions [adversely]

pursue excellence via truth (that which matches reality from an unbiased point of view)
  • put yourself near people who value this

where does your confidence come from?
in what do you hope?
what are your requirements for being happy?
  • what do you value most?

does your enjoyment come from immediate fulfillment, immediate gratification, perhaps at the cost of others'? (near-term vs. long-term)

how teachable are you? by whom?

what frustrates you and why? what are you doing about it?
what do you think about on a day-to-day basis?
