Semantics are a necessary evil.
IntroThe reason semantics are necessary should be obvious: without knowing that a given word has a specific meaning in some context, the word is useless. However, I think semantics are evil because people are not always "honest" in articulating said meanings. I have witnessed the resulting chaos multiple times -- as the term implies, the chaos did not provide any edification whatsoever.
